Sultron™ 1000 Polysulfone (PSU) is an amber semi-transparent, heat-resistant, high performance engineering thermoplastic. It offers excellent mechanical, electrical and improved chemical resistance properties relative to polycarbonate. Polysulfone's properties remain relatively consistent over a broad temperature range, from -150°F (-100°C) to 300°F (100°C).
Sultron™ PSU 1000 Polysulfone is hydrolysis resistant for continuous use in hot water and steam at temperatures up to 300°F. Its flame resistance is UL 94-V-0 at 1/4" thickness (6.35mm) and UL 94-V-2 at 1/8" thickness (3.175mm).
Sultron™ 1000 PSU Polysulfone offers high chemical resistance to acidic and salt solutions, and good resistance to detergents, hot water and steam. In addition, polysulfone has excellent radiation stability, and offers low ionic impurity levels. Sultron™ 1000 PSU Polysulfone often replaces polycarbonate when higher temperatures, improved chemical resistance or autoclavability is required (See Figure 14). It is commonly used for analytical instrumentation, medical devices and semiconductor process equipment components.
Food-grade Sultron™ 1000 PSU Polysulfone and custom colors can be special ordered. Only food-grade PSU 1000 is FDA, 3A-Dairy, USP Class VI and meets the compliance to requirements of NSF/ANSI standard 61.
Sultron™ PSU LSG stock shapes are produced from selected batches of a specific polysulfone resin. This polymer shows a combination of very good mechanical, thermal and electrical properties combined with a good hydrolysis and chemical resistance. The composition of the resin used for the production of the Sultron™ PSU LSG natural stock shapes complies with the regulations that apply in the Member States of the European Union (Directive 2002/72/EC, as amended) and in the United States of America (FDA) for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. Sultron™ PSU LSG natural stock shapes have also been successfully type tested for their compliance with both United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and ISO 10993-1 guideline requirements for Biocompatibility Testing of Materials, and they come with full traceability from resin to stock shape. These features, added to a good sterilizability by means of steam, dry heat, plasma, ethylene oxide and gamma irradiation, make PSU LSG natural stock shapes very suitable for applications in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets.
